VISION STATEMENT

Roanoke Valley Christian Schools seeks to develop students who imitate the heart and mind of Christ as they subject all areas of life to the authority of God's Word and to develop students who are fully prepared to confront their culture from a Biblical worldview.  Philippians 2:5 "Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus." (NKJV)

What is the mission of Roanoke Valley Christian Schools? Is RVCS basically for evangelism or discipleship?
It is the mission of Roanoke Valley Christian Schools to serve as partners with Christian parents as they obey the command of God to train their children in truth. The thrust of RVCS is clearly discipleship oriented, serving as partners with Christian parents.
Who should be a student at RVCS?

*Young people who come from homes where the Christian life is taught and practiced in a consistent way.

*Young people whose families are involved in a church that nurtures the Christian life through adherence to Biblical authority.

*Young people who have a desire to grow in the likeness of Christ and serve Christ faithfully.

*Young people who are committed to Christian truth and practice as a personal desire and/or conviction.

Roanoke Valley Christian Schools admits students of any race, color, national and ethnic origin to all the rights, privileges, programs, and activities generally accorded or made available to students at the school. It does not discriminate on the bases of race, color, national and ethnic origin in administration of its educational policies, scholarship and loan programs, and athletic and other school-administered programs.

Who should not be a student at RVCS?

*Any young person who does not want to be here.

*Any young person who does not want to be here for the right reasons.

Right reasons for becoming a student at RVCS:

 1. To learn more of Christ, the Bible, and to find encouragement and help in growing into Christ-like maturity.

 2. To develop an academic perspective founded on Biblical truth: God as Creator, man as creation, Christ as Savior, man as sinner, etc.

Wrong reasons for becoming a student at RVCS:

1. Any that violate or do not conform to the right reasons.

2. The mere fact that it is a private school.

3. Student body behavior.

4. Public school “problems.”

 5. Any young person who comes from a family where there is little, no, or contradictory practices of the Christian life as taught at RVCS.

 6. Any young person who sees the “rules” of RVCS student behavior and the intent of our Family-School Covenant as things to which they are not already committed in Christ.

How heavily is student attitude considered in the admissions process?
The student is considered to be progressively more responsible for his attitude as he grows older. Students in grades 5-12 must agree to the stated specifics of and personally sign the Covenant. (Students in grades 10-12 should more obviously exhibit a definite personal desire to be here than younger students whose attitudes are more easily influenced by parents.) At the time of annual re-enrollment, both parents and students recommit to maintain a positive attitude toward instruction from Christian perspectives.

Do the parents have to profess personal faith in Jesus Christ?
Both parents should be united in their belief that enrollment at RVCS is best for their child. At least one parent must have a clear testimony of personal faith in Jesus Christ as Savior. Both parents should exhibit a strong desire to have their child taught from Christian perspectives as stated in the Family-School Covenant and doctrinal statement of the Shenandoah Baptist Church.

What is the attitude of RVCS toward church attendance and students coming from other churches?

At Roanoke Valley Christian Schools, we are committed to working with Christian parents who are faithful members of a local church of like faith and practice. All applications are considered on an individual basis. However, it is the general policy of RVCS not to enroll students who are part of churches that are members of the National or World Council of Churches or churches that are non-evangelical in faith and practice, i.e. The Catholic Church.   The following churches are typically a part of the World Council of Churches or National Council of Churches:

Presbyterian Church, U.S.A.

United Methodist Church

 Disciples of Christ

 Evangelical Lutheran Church in America

 United Church of Christ

 Episcopal Church

American Baptist Church in the U.S.A.

Reformed Church in America

Church of the Brethren

As the Scripture says, “Can two walk together except they be agreed?” (Amos 3:3). Our partnership with parents and their local church is vital. A family will qualify for enrollment at RVCS in large part based on the beliefs of their church and the reference from their pastor.

If a family is enrolled and the school becomes aware that they have broken their faithful relationship with their church, continued enrollment at RVCS will automatically become probationary until an acceptable resolution is reached. If there is no resolution, the family will be asked to withdraw from RVCS. “Christ also loved the church, and gave Himself for it . . . “ (Ephesians 5:25).

“. . . and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it” (Matthew 16:18). Since Christ highly regarded the role and authority of the church, so shall RVCS.

For the 2009-2010 school year, there were sixty-three churches, other than Shenandoah Baptist Church, represented in our student body. More than half of the student body is represented in these sixty-one churches.

Does the academic level of a student determine his acceptance? What curriculum is used?

RVCS accepts only the students that we are equipped to help. Incoming students may be tested before entry and records from any previous schools will be requested.

RVCS uses an assortment of textbooks from both Christian and secular publishing companies.

Do all of the children in a family have to attend RVCS?

It is preferable that a family have all of its school-age children in RVCS, but it is not required that every child in a family attend RVCS before any of them can.

What is the cut-off date for admission to Kindergarten?

A student must be three years old by September 30 to be admitted to the RVCS K3, fouryears old by September 30 to be admitted to the RVCS K4, and five years old by September 30 to be admitted to the RVCS K5.

What is the tuition?

a. Tuition for the 2010-2011 school year is as follows:

K3 (part-time) $1223.00

K-4 (part-time) $1711.00

K4 & K5 (5 half-day) $2871.00

K4-K5 (5 full days)    $4961.00

Grades K4-4 $5333.00

Grades 5-8 $5596.00

Grades 9-12 $5959.00

For a family that has more than one child enrolled, a discount of will be given for each additional student enrolled full-time.

The tuition cap (maximum for any family) for 2010-2011is $12,000.00.

 b. Every family at RVCS receives indirect financial aid toward tuition. Every RVCS family benefits because the tuition rates do not cover the total cost to educate the children.

 c. No member family of Shenandoah Baptist Church (SBC) will be turned away from RVCS solely because of an inability to pay the tuition. Every SBC family that faithfully tithes, attends, and participates in the ministry, but does not have the financial means to send their children to RVCS is asked to complete an application for financial assistance. Applications are available in the school office.  The completed application is sent to the business administrator no later than June 15th of each year.  The business administrator then verifies all of the information and submits applications to the Financial Management Group of SBC for approval.  The above demonstrates the conviction held by the leaders of SBC that a local church has the responsibility for assisting its member families with the Christian education of the children.
Other local churches are encouraged to consider a similar position of positive conviction as God would so lead.

How do RVCS students perform on nationally standardized achievement tests?
